Richard Boele, President
Richard is the founder of Banarra Sustainability and Social Assurance. He has worked as a social auditor and corporate social responsibility consultant with a range of clients including Newmont Mining, Westpac (Australia and New Zealand), Sydney Water, BHP Billiton, BHP Billiton Iron Ore, BP, Australia Post, Novo Nordisk, the British government and Amnesty International. He previously held key positions at The Body Shop International (UK-based) and human rights organisations, both in Australia and Europe.
Richard is a Visiting Fellow at the Graduate Centre of the Environment at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia and holds an Industrial Fellowship with the Centre for Stakeholding and Sustainable Enterprise at the Kingston University Business School in London, UK.
Other positions include the President of the Social and Ethical Auditing Institute (Australia), an elected Councillor of the Institute of Social and Ethical Accountability (UK) and a Director of the Australia Tibet Council.
He has published widely on business and social responsibility including articles in Australian Financial Review, International Development Studies Journal, Journal of Business Ethics and the Journal of Sustainable Development. 2003 saw two books on business and human rights published in which Richard co-authored chapters and 2005 will see an article on social auditing published in the Journal of Corporate Citizenship.
He is a certified Full Member of the Institute for Social and Ethical AccountAbility (UK).
